CATALOG No. highback100

Vintage A-frame High Back Saddle over 100 years old

This is a highly collectible early day A-frame High Back Saddle in good condition. The old metal rimmed wooden stirrups are solid. The leather attaching the big solid metal cinch rings looks healthy and solid. The strap for the lariat is still present and usable. Even more surprisingly, the real sheepskin on the base is almost entirely present, just a couple of small loose areas up near the throat.

The saddle obviously had great care for its first 100 years of existence. The old cowboy who originally purchased this saddle spent a years pay for it, and planned on keeping it a lifetime. Perhaps when the cowboy's riding days passed, the saddle got ignored for awhile but the early care helped preserve the saddle in it's currently great condition.

Unlike many old A-frame saddles of this era, the gullet on this old west collectible measures almost 6 inches across, and the shoulders flare well. The seat measures 13.5 inches, and the high back cantle is both steep and tall, measuring a full 5 inches. This is a heavy, well made saddle, a great collectible dating back to the old west era.
