BRUNO SNIDER FAMILY HISTORY

Bruno Anton Snider, son of Mike and Veronica Snider, was born in Wooten Wells in Robertson County near Bremond. Bruno grew up on the C.M. Campbell farm in Wooten Wells and worked crops with his dad and brothers and sisters. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and neighboring kids.

Bruno married Verna Kubiak, daughter of Louis and Clara Kubiak, who lived next door on the C.M. Campbell farm near Wooten Wells. Bruno and Verna had four children including:

Bruno Steve- born on October 2, 1940 in Reagan, Falls County, Texas

Barbara Jean- born on April 9, 1942 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas

Frank- born on January 20, 1947 in Robertson County near Bremond

Joann- born on

In the late 1940's, Bruno and Verna lived near the Snider clan in Robertson County midway between Reagan and Bremond near his sisters, Connie and Willie and his brother, Bill Snider. At this time, Bruno worked for Claude Buell for wages while the rest of the Snider clan sharecropped the Kirkpatrick river bottom land.

Bruno was always close to his brothers-in-law, Lige and Ike Kubiak, and spent many hours setting out trotlines in the Brazos and surrounding rivers. He loved hunting and fishing and living off the land.

As a kid, I recall that my Uncle Bruno caught the biggest alligator gar that I ever saw! I was told that Bruno got into the water and tied the huge fish to the wooden bridge by running a piece of bailing wire through his gills. The huge gar weighed over 150 pounds- enough to send fish steaks home with all the relatives!

During the last few years of his life, Bruno worked in Houston. After being ill for some time, Bruno died of a stroke in Houston on January 29, 1987. Bruno’s ex-wife, Verna Kubiak Snider lived with her daughter, Joann in Crosby, Texas for many years until her death at the age of 88 on February 9, 2011.
